Considering the increasing importance of protecting the digital security of media employees, the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro organized a training session for journalists and editors on April 27 and 28 to raise awareness about this crucial aspect of their safety.
Expert Jakša Backović presented the basic principles of digital security to the participants over the two-day training session, along with a series of practical tips on minimizing online risks to protect privacy, as well as the integrity of their stories and sources.
He explained concepts such as social engineering and the dark web. Backović focused his practical advice on the secure use of email, proper password selection, and responsible management of social media. He highlighted poor practices that can jeopardize privacy.
Participants were particularly interested in details regarding specific challenges like phishing and digital surveillance.
Following the training, a brief guide on improving digital security will be created and distributed to the participants and other media representatives who express interest.
The training was organized as part of the project “Increasing the Capacities of Media Actors to Mitigate the Safety Risks for Journalists,” funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro.
