Training of Trainers and Study Visit in Stockholm

A Training of Trainers programme and study visit were held in Stockholm as part of the project “Key Challenges: Enhancing Journalists’ Safety, Labour Rights and Resilience in the Western Balkans”, implemented by Fojo Media Institute in cooperation with the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) and partner organisations from across the region.

During the five-day programme, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences and strengthen their knowledge on providing psychological support to journalists exposed to pressure, threats and hate campaigns, newsroom safety, risk assessment and cybersecurity, as well as identifying hybrid threats and disinformation that increasingly affect the media sector.

Particular attention was given to labour rights in the media sector and the role of trade unions in protecting media workers. The programme also focused on adult learning methodologies and effective ways of transferring knowledge to colleagues in newsrooms and media organisations.

As part of the programme, participants visited the newsrooms of the Swedish daily newspaper Aftonbladet and the public service broadcaster Sveriges Radio. These study visits provided valuable insight into practices related to journalist safety, employee support mechanisms and efforts to improve working conditions in the media sector.

The programme brought together representatives of media organisations and trade unions from Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and North Macedonia, with the aim of strengthening regional cooperation, facilitating the exchange of experiences and developing joint responses to the challenges faced by journalists and media workers across the Western Balkans.

The project is implemented by Fojo Media Institute in partnership with the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM), the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (NUNS), the Center for Investigative Reporting of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CIN), the Media Workers’ Union of Macedonia (SSNM) and AMPEK, with financial support from the Swedish Institute.
