vizual: SMCG

The Media Union of Montenegro launched the implementation of the twelve-month project “Digital Compass” on 1 December 2025. The project aims to strengthen the digital resilience and professional accountability of journalists and young media professionals in Montenegro. It focuses on improving knowledge and skills related to the safe, ethical, and informed use of new technologies in journalism, including generative artificial intelligence, in line with relevant European regulations.

During the project’s implementation, the first research study in Montenegro on how journalists use and perceive generative AI will be conducted, followed by the development of recommendations for responsible practice. The project also includes the organization of training sessions on digital security and digital rights, as well as a campaign promoting responsible journalism in the digital environment.

Special emphasis will be placed on the inclusion of young media professionals through the Youth Section of the Media Union of Montenegro and the magazine “Ekipa”, with the aim of increasing visibility and encouraging the active participation of young people in topics at the intersection of media and new technologies.

The project runs until 30 November 2026.

The project Digital Compass – Media Professionals between Media Literacy, AI, and the DSA/DMA, implemented by the Media Union of Montenegro, is supported through the program “Protection of Rights and Promotion of Digital Citizenship: The Montenegrin Digital Shield (MDS),” implemented by the Centre for Civic Education (CCE) in partnership with the SHARE Foundation, and in cooperation with the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services, with financial support from the European Union and co-financing from the Ministry of Regional and Investment Development and Cooperation with Non-Governmental Organizations.
