Approximately 20 journalists, editors, and other media professionals from various outlets attended a training session on reporting from protests and demonstrations, held on July 6 and 7 in Bar.
The training was led by Dragiša Mugoša, a representative of the Police Administration with extensive experience in managing high-risk gatherings. Additionally, Siniša Bjeković, the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms, provided insights on reporting from such events from his institution’s perspective. Radomir Kračković, President of the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro, presented guidelines for risk assessments in the media industry, partially addressing this topic.
The training focused on enhancing reporters’ abilities to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with covering high-risk gatherings. Discussions also highlighted the police’s role in ensuring the safety of news teams and the need for newsrooms to better prepare for such reporting.
Participants and lecturers exchanged practical advice on risk assessment, and it was agreed to establish closer cooperation with the Police Administration.
The training was organized as part of the project “Increasing the Capacities of Media Actors to Mitigate the Safety Risks for Journalists,” funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro.
