President of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Maja Sever, gave a lecture to journalism students at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica, together with representatives of trade unions and media organisations from several European countries, who were staying in Montenegro at the time for the closing conference of the European Federation of Journalists.
The visit provided an opportunity for students to hear first-hand experiences from journalists and trade union representatives from different European countries, as well as to discuss with them the challenges and prospects of contemporary journalism. During the meeting, a number of important topics were addressed, including the importance of professional and trade union solidarity, the labour rights of media workers, the position of young people in newsrooms, European media regulation, the safety of journalists, and the impact of new technologies and artificial intelligence on the journalism profession.
In a dynamic exchange of views, the participants and students shared perspectives on the future of journalism, the role of the media in contemporary society, and the need to further protect and strengthen the profession in a time of rapid technological and social change.
The meeting at the Faculty of Political Sciences was an opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience, while also opening important questions about how to preserve professional standards, improve the position of journalists, and respond to the challenges shaping the future of the media.
