By The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) strongly condemns the attack by one of the accused members of a criminal organization, Predrag Veljić, on Libertas Press photojournalist Savo Prelević.
We are concerned that unfortunate incidents involving media workers as victims continue to occur.
We reiterate that attacks on media professionals are absolutely unacceptable and represent a direct assault on media freedom and the public’s right to be informed.
TUMM welcomes the decision of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica to open a case against Veljić, in line with the recommendation of the Supreme State Prosecutor.
We also call on the competent authorities to see this process through to the end, with appropriate sanctions.
The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro will continue to monitor this case and insist on consistent application of the law in order to protect media workers.
We urge the relevant institutions to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of media professionals and enable them to work without interference.
