TUMM, SafeJournalists Network, and EU Institutions Discuss Journalists’ Safety in the Region

A representative of the Media Trade Union of Montenegro (TUMM), Dražen Đurašković, took part in meetings of the SafeJournalists network with representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament, held in Brussels.

During meetings with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, as well as other senior European Union officials, discussions focused on the safety of journalists in the Western Balkans region, the challenges faced by media workers, and the role of the SafeJournalists network in monitoring and documenting attacks against journalists.

Particular attention was given to the need to strengthen institutional protection for journalists, improve the legislative framework, and highlight the importance of regional cooperation in combating impunity for attacks on media professionals. Representatives of the SafeJournalists network also briefed EU officials on current data regarding threats, pressures and physical attacks against journalists, as well as on the mechanisms the network uses for rapid response and international advocacy.
