Research on the socio-economic status of journalists and other media professionals in Montenegro was conducted by the research agency Defacto Consultancy for the OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM).
The OSCE Mission and SMCG initiated this comprehensive study which, in the context of the Media Strategy 2023–2027, provides updated and expanded data on the socio-economic status of journalists and other media professionals.
The research forms part of the project “Journalists and Media in a Safe and Protected Environment” and includes both a quantitative survey and qualitative focus groups, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of working conditions, access to rights, perceptions of personal safety, professional pressures, and attitudes toward trade union organisation.
This report presents the results of an integrated analysis of the collected quantitative and qualitative data. Its purpose is to provide reliable, comparable, and statistically grounded information on the working and living conditions of journalists and media workers in Montenegro, and to contribute to evidence-based policy-making, the strengthening of labour rights protection, and the improvement of the broader environment for media freedom in the country. The findings are intended for state institutions, media outlets, professional and trade union organisations, international partners, and the expert public, and are meant to serve as a relevant basis for future interventions by the OSCE and other stakeholders in the sector.
