From physical attacks and online harassment, to self-censorship caused by fear of consequences, and inadequate institutional protection – the report shows how gender-based violence deeply affects women journalists’ psychological well-being, professional opportunities, and personal safety, as well as media pluralism and the overall quality of public information.
By analyzing the national and international framework, data collected through interviews and focus groups, and the experiences of women journalists themselves, the report reveals long-standing problems and trends that remain largely underreported or unrecognized. The goal of this research is to make these experiences visible, raise awareness of the specific risks faced by women journalists, and encourage institutions, media outlets, and society as a whole to take concrete steps towards a safer and fairer working environment for women in journalism.
