Strengthening Journalists’ Safety and Improving Working Conditions in Montenegro

Representatives of the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) held a meeting with Johann Sattler, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, to present the current challenges in the field of media freedom, as well as the activities being carried out by the Union to improve journalists’ rights and ensure the safety of media workers.

The TUMM delegation included President Radomir Kračković, Vice President Marijana Camović Veličković, and Expert Associate Dražen Đurašović.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange information about the current state of media freedom in the country, with a particular focus on the safety of journalists and the improvement of their working conditions. The discussions covered various initiatives being implemented by the Trade Union of Media aimed at protecting journalists’ rights and strengthening the position of journalists and other media workers in editorial offices.

During the meeting, the key role of civil society in Montenegro in the fight for the safety of journalists was emphasized. The representatives of the Trade Union of Media presented activities that are currently being implemented, which include providing support to journalists through various training, counseling, psychological, and legal assistance.

The meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the continuous support of the European Union for the efforts of civil society and journalists’ organizations in Montenegro. Ambassador Sattler expressed his satisfaction with the achieved results and reiterated the EU’s commitment to continue supporting the further improvement of journalists’ safety and working conditions.
