Representatives of the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) and the newly formed Union of Journalists and Media Workers of Albania held a workshop focused on strengthening cross-border cooperation to improve working conditions in the media.
The workshop, sponsored by the Solidarity Center’s office in Tirana, brought together around 20 members from both unions.
During the workshop, TUMM shared its goals, vision, and the rich experience in union activities it has undertaken since its founding in 2013, along with an analysis of the media landscape in Montenegro. Albanian colleagues provided an analysis of their country’s media environment, noting that the challenges faced by media employees in both countries are largely similar.
Discussions covered collective bargaining, the role of education and activities for young members, and the impact of digitalization on journalism and unionism.
Participants agreed that the collaboration should culminate in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation and that TUMM’s assistance in establishing a functional union in Albania could be of great significance.
The next workshop is scheduled to be held in Tirana in November.
