Free SOS Helpline 080 000 222

The helpline 080 000 222 is now available free of charge to journalists and media workers for reporting threats, attacks, and other forms of risks to their safety.

The number is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and was established within the framework of the Intersectoral Working Group for the Establishment of a Mechanism for the Safety of Journalists.

We invite journalists and media workers to use this line in situations where they are exposed to threats, attacks, or other forms of pressure, so that the competent authorities can respond in a timely manner and provide the necessary support.

The establishment of the helpline was initiated through the activities of the Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) and implemented with the support of Mtel, as a contribution to strengthening the system for the protection of journalists and other media professionals in Montenegro.

The launch of this line is one of the activities envisaged by the Media Strategy of Montenegro 2023 to 2027.

We recall that the Government recently established the Intersectoral Working Group for the Establishment of a Mechanism for the Safety of Journalists, whose task includes, among other, coordinating the work of competent institutions in cases of threats and attacks against journalists, as well as providing free legal and psychological support to those affected. Since the Working Group began its work on 4 March, it has received six reports from journalists, all of which have been acted upon by the Working Group.
