The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro strongly condemns the attempt of discrimination against the radio station and portal Antena M by the Ministry of Defence of Montenegro.
This act, in addition to being unacceptable and a direct attack on freedom of information, also represents a violation of the Media Law.
Article 38 of that Law clearly stipulates that accreditation for any event organized by public sector entities, or by other entities involving media participation, cannot be denied to journalists.
By this action, the Ministry, led by Minister Krapović, has not only violated the rights of journalists and media outlets, but has also endangered the public’s right to be timely and objectively informed about matters of public interest.
Such practices are indicative of a non-transparent and authoritarian approach to the media, and must have no place in a society striving for democracy and European values.
We remind government representatives that journalists must have equal access to all information, regardless of the editorial policies of the media they work for.
The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro demands that the Ministry of Defence immediately revoke this decision and, in the future, ensure that representatives of all media are equally included in the activities organized by this Government body.
