By The Trade Union of Media of Montenegro (TUMM) strongly condemns the attack on journalist Dušanka Pejović, which represents yet another in a worrying series of assaults on media representatives and public voices in Montenegrin society.
We are particularly concerned by the fact that the journalist was attacked while standing in front of a residential building, which further highlights the insecurity faced by members of the media.
We commend the swift response of the police and prosecution and urge the competent institutions to investigate this case as efficiently as possible, so that those responsible are promptly and appropriately sanctioned. All attacks on journalists must result in proper judicial outcomes in order to send a clear message that violence and threats are unacceptable.
We will continue to closely monitor the development of this case and insist on the protection of journalists and media workers, as the safety of media professionals is a fundamental prerequisite for free and responsible journalism.
